Route Information, History and Photo Gallery

Decommissioned in 1977, GA 143 traversed a 102 mile course in the northwestern corner of the state extending from Tate to the Alabama State Line near Trenton. Click on the link under history below for an in depth look at the history of the longest decommissioned route in Georgia.

Georgia 143 Historic Photo Gallery

The photos below include one actual photo and a couple photos edited to represent unique locations along the route.

This is an actual photo of the route. The view is from the end of the ramp from I-59 southbound with Lookout Mountain in the background. This is now GA 136. Photo taken in 1975 by Michael Summa.
I was fortunate enough to capture old-style signage at this former western end of GA 143 Connector so that I was able to do magic to recreate the intersection the way it might have looked in 1977. This is actually the end of GA 136 Connector at GA 136.
Another fantasy intersection created with Photoshop. Official fonts were used, this time Series B, to make the signs appear very genuine. GA 143 here is once again part of GA 136 where it joins GA 151 in the Naomi community.
