Route Information, History and Termini Gallery

Located entirely in the southernmost tip of Georgia, GA 185 is as far south as one can go for a route in Georgia aside from GA 121, which continues into Florida. In all, 14-mile long GA 185 is situated comfortably in the thumb formed by the St. Marys River on the Georgia/Florida Border. It is also worth noting that the highway runs along the St. Marys River, which is just to the west of the route. North of the Florida state line, GA 185 is remote with the county seat Folkston nearly 40 miles from the southern end. The nearest actual city is Macclenny, FL.

History

GA 185 was completely unpaved when it was first commissioned in the early 1940's. Around 1960, half of the road was paved south of GA 94 in Moniac. The road was completely paved by 1963.
