Route Information, History, Photo and Termini Gallery

Located in Meriwether County, GA 194 forms a cutoff road between two notable tourist towns including formentioned Warm Springs and Pine Mountain. GA 194 is also known as Durand Road and extends for 6 miles.

Nearby Pine Mountain is home to the very popular Callaway Gardens park and resort and Warm Springs is home the famous springs that FDR enjoyed near his "Little White House".

History

GA 194 was commissioned in the 1940's and paved by the late 1950's.

Thought not part of the actual highway, just off of the highway on adjoining Mitchum Road, a vintage wooden bridge can be found in very nice condition over a railroad. Note the scene of Pine Mountain behind the photo. A few of these still exist across Georgia, but the few remaining are endangered due to the costly issues of wood structures.
It is understood that a bridge very much like this one was found on now decommissioned GA 222 nearby. Because of that, it was fascinating to find this similar bridge. Note that the structure of the bridge is entirely creosote-coated wood.
