Route Information, History, Photo and Termini Gallery

Lengthy GA 208 is located in west central Georgia running east-west north of Columbus. GA 208 passes through Harris, Talbot and Taylor Counties along its 43.5 mile course. Towns along the route include Waverly Hall and Talbotton with the route otherwise extremely rural.

In Talbotton, GA 208 makes several complicated turns and also overlaps with two routes. These include an 0.1 mile overlap with U.S. 80/GA 22/41 and an 0.5 mile overlap with GA 90. These overlaps are broken by a brief 0.2 mile section to the northeast of the two highways that joins GA 90 Spur, which is most likely unsigned.

History

What is GA 208 today actually started out as part of GA 116. In 1938, this included all of present-day GA 208 west of Talbotton. By the 1940's, GA 116 was re-established further north on its present alignment and GA 208 took its place.

The original GA 208 was fully unpaved and included all of what was GA 116. The highway was soon after fully paved before 1952. Also, when GA 208 was first commissioned, the highway had not yet been extended east of Talbotton. It was not until around 1960 that the eastward extension occured. The route has otherwise remained largely unchanged since that time.
