Route Information, History and Historic Termini Gallery

Short Old GA 319 is located in Barrow and Jackson Counties. Locally known as Double Bridges Road (C.R. 406) in Barrow and Etheridge Road (C.R. 568) in Jackson, Old GA 319 extends 6.1 miles from GA 211 east of Winder to U.S. 129 Business/GA 15 Alt in Arcade.

The Double Bridge Road portion of GA 319 is named for the two sets of bridges over the Middle Oconee River. Etheridge Road is named for the Shields-Etheridge Farm, a historic plantation open to public tours.

History

GA 319 first appeared in 1960. Fully paved upon commissioning, the highway saw no changes during its existance. The highway was decommissioned around 1990.

This map here shows GA 319 and surrounding highways. Note the close proximity to GA 11 and 82 (1984 GDOT Map).

All photos below by J.T. Legg taken along the route on June 5, 2005.

Between the "Double Bridges" is this very fascinating old LWS directing traffic to not just any church, but an A.M.E. church. Nowhere else have any signs been spotted like that.
Looking north towards the "Double Bridges". You can barely make out the second one in the background.
The southern terminus for a long time had a faded LGS where it ended at GA 211. The road intersecting here is GA 211, and the old sign was recently replaced with this atrocity. No other guide or route signage remains on any part of Old GA 319. The road was never important enough to be a highway, and GA 82 serves the route equally.
