Route Information and History

Part of what is today GA 86, GA 322 extended nearly 13 miles through Toombs and Treutlen Counties. In all, GA 322 consisted of part of present GA 86 from GA 292 six miles west of Lyons in the Ohoopee community to U.S. 1/GA 4 in Oak Park. One of the distinct notes about GA 322 is that it did not extend as far south as present-day GA 86 does where it ends into U.S. 280. At the time, that was a paved county road that was once part of GA 322 before it became a state route.

History

When first commissioned, GA 322 had taken over all of a previously paved county road, most likely a former Rural Roads Authority route. Commissioned in 1960, GA 322 came into existance the same year as its cousin GA 321 to the east and was even shorter-lived. In 1965, GA 322 was decommissioned in favor of extending nearby GA 86 eastward along an overlap with GA 46 to continue along the route. Note the blue line in the map below extending beyond the southern end of GA 322 that is now part of GA 86.
