Route Information, History and Termini Gallery
Through the cotton and peanut farms of Middle Georgia, GA 329 cuts a clean path from GA 26 to GA 230 in Macon and Dooly Counties. Extending for 10 miles, the route serves as a direct link between Montezuma and Unadilla. GA 329 is distinct in that a nearly two-mile portion of the route straddles the Macon/Dooly County line, resulting in mileage for both counties. The entire route has never been named and is simply known as "Georgia Highway 329".

History

First established in 1961, GA 329 originally was a near perfect east-west route. In fact, it made a bee line along N County Line Road hugging the Dooly/Houston line to end at U.S. 41/GA 7 one mile north of Unadilla. When it followed, this route, the portion in Dooly and Houston Counties was not paved, leaving only a short paved section in Macon County.

S.R. 329 along its former more direct alignment in 1970. The highway was not only fully paved that year, but also shifted south to end at GA 230 west of I-75 where it is today.

S.R. 329 later in 1973. Note that the old alignment is fully paved with most of the highway moved to where it is today (1973 GDOT Map)

In 1970, GA 329 was relocated south to its present alignment literally curving south from the former route along present-day N County Line Road (Houston C.R. 440). When relocated, the new route was fully paved with the old route paved to the north as well. Part of the reasoning for that new alignment may largely be attributed to the fact that the older route of GA 329 does not have an interchange with I-75. The newer route, in contrast, connects to I-75 via GA 230. No changes have occured along GA 329 since that time.
