Route Information, History and Termini Gallery
Winding north from McLemore Cove into the Georgia side of Chattanooga Valley, GA 341 extends 15.5 miles through northern Walker County. Existing primarily to serve the town of Chickamauga, the highway is also an alternate route for GA 193. In all, the highway ranges from extremely rural on the south end to somewhat urban towards the north end where it enters the Chattanooga suburbs. The area around the highway is scenic in parts with Lookout Mountain to the west. Chickamauga itself is a historical town near Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Battlefied Park. Also, Crawfish Spring is worth stopping for while in the town of Chickamauga.

History

GA 341 was first commissioned in 1961. Fully paved prior to the commissioning of the route, the highway is narrow and winding as a result of no changes occuring along it overall since it first became state. The first of only two road projects to occur along the highway were both bridge widenings. The first was what appears to have been either a bridge widening or replacement over Chickamauga Creek in 1974.

On August 15, 1986, GA 341 was shortened very slightly when work to complete GA 193 was completed, resulting in a relocation east of the former route. The decommissioned section is basically a short connector to Old GA 193 (Chattanooga Valley Road) in the Flintstone community. Part of this project also involved a relocation and another bridge replacement over Chattanooga Creek immediately east of where the road joins GA 193.

Here, photos include end signage. The other two photos are on GA 193 southbound. Those include a recent directional assembly and contractor-installed junction assembly that dates to 1986. All photos here taken on May 7, 2005.
Historic Northern Terminus: Chattanooga Valley Road (Old GA 193) in the Flintstone community
This remnant remains on Old GA 193 southbound where GA 341 originally ended. With the new GA 193 running within a quarter-mile of the old highway, GA 341 is a very short distance away to the left.
