Route Information, History and Termini Gallery
GA 371, better known as Post Road, is located in southwest Forsyth County in fast-growing Forsyth County. A short, 6-mile long highway in an area that is succumbing to rapid progress as it is now part of the Atlanta suburbs, the route serves as a quasi-bypass to the west of Cumming from GA 20 (Canton Highway) west to GA 9 (Atlanta Highway) south.

History

GA 371 came to life when fragmented GA 141 was truncated south of GA 9. Originally, GA 141 had made an incomplete route across the county before continuing east to Gainesville. During the time period of 1970-71 and upon completion of an extension of then GA 141 westward to meet GA 20, the respective two portions of GA 141 north of GA 9 became GA 369 and 371 as they are today.

GA 371 was most notably in the news as one of the locations for a proposed interchange with the Northern Arc of the Outer Perimeter (GA 500) before the wildly unpopular project was canceled in 2003 by Governor Sonny Perdue.

Southern Terminus: GA 9 between Alpharetta and Cumming

The first photo was taken looking southbound on GA 9, this is the last remaining old-style GA 371 sign. This area has lots of congestion due to it serving as a main corridor in fast-growing Forsyth County. GA 9 was also U.S. 19 before GA 400 opened. The last photo is of the junction assembly on northbound GA 9 approaching the same intersection. Photos taken July 23, 2004 and June 5, 2005.
Northern Terminus: GA 20 in the Ducktown community west of Cumming
Photos 1 and 3 are looking eastbound on GA 20 towards Cumming. Photo 2 is the first reassurance shield southbound. No end signage existed at the time these photos were taken. All photos taken July 23, 2004.
