Route Information, History and Termini Gallery

GA 95 is a major-sounding highway that overall is a route of largely local significance. Located in Walker County, this winding highway extends 7.9 miles through the Catlett community. The route serves as part of a cutoff northeast of LaFayette from GA 136 to U.S. 27.

History

Designated in the 1930's along a previously unnumbered state route (identified on old maps as literally "U.S."), GA 95 was finally assigned to this unnumbered route in the mid-1930's. The route had once served as part of the old La Fayette Road when it was first added to the state highway system in 1921.

After it was designated, GA 95 originally extended a little furthern than the route of today, extending south along present-day GA 151 to end at GA 143 (present-day GA 136). When GA 151 was extended south of GA 143 to Tryon around 1975, GA 95 was truncated to terminate at GA 151 like it does today. On an even smaller scale, GA 95 was later shortened around a tenth of a mile in Rock Spring when U.S. 27 was relocated slightly east, but the date when that occured is unknown.

GA 95 was graveled and well-maintained for an unpaved road in the 1940's and was fully paved by the early 1950's. The original route, including what is now GA 151, was 9.7 miles long.
