Ladd
Bridge, so named for the store that is adjacent to it, is located along Highway
61 southwest of Cartersville. The road itself was a historic alignment of Old
Mill Road, abandoned in the early 1980's.
While
the bridge sits as an oddity with no road access, its existance in a congested
corner is a peculiarity. Until recently, boards were still half-rotted on the
bridge. Now, all that is left is the steel structure itself. A simple reworking
of the roads eliminated the need for this bridge, but this may have been built
originally to carry Highway 113, which shares mileage with 61 here. All photos

on either photo above for a larger image of the bridge. The first photo is looking
west. Behind me is Walnut Grove Road, which covers the path of the original Old
Mill Road and Highway 61 is in front of me in the background. The second photo
provides a broader side view. Note the truss design, which is exactly like the
Tilley Mill and Douthit Bridges. |
