The Historic Bridges of Bartow County - Euharlee Creek (Lowry) Covered Bridge in Euharlee

Click on the photo above for a larger image of the bridge. This is looking south with detail of the stone piers and park.

Lowry Bridge, better known as the Euharlee Covered Bridge, is by far the most famous of the old bridges in Bartow County. It is also the only covered bridge in the county, one of only 12 left in the state.

This beautiful 19th Century structure is very well-tended, forming the center of Euharlee. Surrounding it is a park and an old mill just to the east on Euharlee Creek. The bridge itself carried traffic for a century, finally closed to traffic in 1980 when a modern bridge was built over the creek.

In all, this bridge represents the very rural roots of Euharlee that would be picture perfect except for Plant Bowen, which brings industry to the area, albeit unsightly and polluting. Lowry Bridge is one of three historic bridge structures in Euharlee, the other two being Milam Bridge and Tilley Mill Bridge. While photographs are much more plentiful of this bridge, this is the most important historic bridge in Bartow County and thus more photos will be published here.

Approaching the bridge from the north. This shows full detail of the bridge and its approach. Note the curvature of the road. This likely made it difficult to maneuver being one-lane.
Close-up view of the covered part with a bit of the inside. The deck and running boards are maintained as if traffic was still using the structure..
Newly installed plaque with more details on the history of the bridge.
