HAYWOOD COUNTY BRIDGES - HUNGRY CREEK ROAD

Back to Haywood County | Back to WNC Bridges Main Page

The riveted Pratt pony truss over the East Fork Pigeon River may not be one of the oldest designs, but it is still a classic bridge that predates North Carolina's secondary state route system by one year meaning this structure was built by Haywood County. Built in 1930, this road helps Hungry Creek Road (S.R. 1890) residents travel from U.S. 276 over the river to their homes on this dead-end dirt road. The view beyond the bridge to the east is among the most scenic I have ever photographed around a truss bridge. The stream under the bridge is an equally equisite pure mountain stream where people were trout fishing while I was taking these photos.
